Miss Mary

I’m writing about my character Mary who is the main character in this book. Mary was the India girl and she was a daughter that her parent didn’t care for, so she had a servant for herself. Mary didn’t have a graceful face and she had blond hair. She is egotistic, brusque and unkind. One day unreasonable disease appeared in that town, unfortunately Mary’s parent died and Mary was taken care of by her uncle in Yorkshire. In Yorkshire, she met some people and she had her time that she could change her personality. Before she knew Martha, Ben, Dickon, Martha’s mother, she thought only of herself and she was negative about everything. After she met those who were warm-hearted, she could thank someone, tell someone positively and like someone. I could see those, for example on page 23 chapter 5 “She never thanked people usually and she did not know how to do it.” Also, she could advise Colin who was as same as Mary. Due to Mary’s advice, Colin could think he was able to walk and be well.

       During reading this book “The Secret Garden”, I thought the book told readers the importance of meeting people. Initial personalities of characters like Mary, Colin are hopeless, egotistic and unkind. However, after they met people who thought about them sincerely, they tried to change themselves and could think to give happiness for other. In conclusion, Mary was changed by people in Yorkshire, Colin was changed by Mary and Craven was changed by them. They could change by meeting and communicating with other people.

Japan and America – Baseball

Japan(NPB)

According to Wikipedia(2014), ”NPB or Nippon Professional Baseball is the highest level of baseball in Japan. The league currently consists of two six-team circuits, the Central League and the Pacific League. The two leagues each scheduled 130, 135 or 140 regular season games. Each season the winning clubs from the two leagues compete in the Japan Series, the championship series of NPB. Japanese baseball games may end in a tie. If the score is tied after nine innings of play, up to three additional innings will be played. If there is no winner after 12innings, the game is declared a draw, except in the postseason which allows 15innings.”(Nippon Professional Baseball). As mentioned earlier, the NPB has two leagues. The two leagues have a difference about designated hitter system. The Pacific League has the designated hitter system, but the Central League does not have a designated hitter system, so a pitcher has to hit. Now, Korean players are playing activities in NPB and they are key players in their teams. Oh Seunghwan is a pitcher who is responsible for saving the innings in Hanshin Tigers. Also, Lee Daeho is a hitter who hits balls a long distance in Softbank Hawks.

America(LA Dodgers)

“The Los Angeles Dodgers are a professional baseball team located in Los Angeles, California. The Dodgers are members of the National League West division of Major League Baseball (MLB). Established in 1883, the team originated in Brooklyn, New York, where it was known by a number of nicknames before becoming the Brooklyn Dodgers definitively by 1932. The team moved to Los Angeles before the 1958 season. They played their first four seasons in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before moving to their current home of Dodger Stadium, the third-oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball (after Fenway Park and Wrigley Field)”(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Dodgers). This team is pretty well on their league, LAD won world championship 6 times 1988, 1981, 1963, 1956, 1955. Their home stadium is Dodgers stadium. San Francisco Giants is the biggest rival. In this year Dodgers win the National league, but lost at the division season against Saint Louis Cardinals, Dodgers has world best starting pitcher, Clayton Kershaw(the best pitcher in U.S), Zack Greinke, Ryu Hyun jin (Korean monster). My most favorite player is Kershaw because not only is he a good player but also his personality, he helps the poor, and sick people. I hope Kershaw and Dodgers have a good 2015 season.

NPB Comparison

Of course, I have a lot of interesting ideas about baseball, so I read the information about LAD in MLB intently. However, I think that the NPB is better than the MLB because the NPB all star team beat the MLB all star team. Recently, there were games of the all star between NPB and MLB. At the all star games, the NPB all star team won three games of four games. The NPB league has the greatest pitchers in my opinion. Actually, the pitchers in the NPB have low ERA(earned run average), so many hitters are hard to hitting pitchers’ ball. However, I like to watch the MLB league because I like Ryu Hyunjin in the LAD too.

LAD Comparison

The information about Japan baseball league is very useful, but I think LAD or MLB is better than NPB and I’ve got several reasons for that. First, MLB is more fun because of how they play, they play more dangerous and they take a risk when they play; however, most of Japan league don’t. Second, the size of league is enormous for example the most expensive baseball team in MLB is New York Yankees worth 3.5 billion dollars, in case of Japan not enough to be a half of Yankees. In my own experience the crowds are different, I saw Yankees versus Boston the crowds are very dynamic and they are fun and interactive, but in case of Japan league crowds are less interactive than MLB crowds. It is different by people in my case I prefer MLB crowds. Finally, I saw MLB more than NPB because of the language, I taught Japanese language in high school, but in my case English is more familiar than Japanese, I prefer NPB than MLB.

YoungDuk

I think YoungDuk city is one of the most beautiful and amazing cities in Korea. People from other cities come to YoungDuk to enjoy its many beaches ,clear blue water, see its amazing scenery, and enjoy its delicious fresh sea food. The following paragraghs will explain ‘Blue Load’, a fabulous ocean path. “Smell the ocean and continue along the coastal road. You will never get tired of the narrow road where the wind and forest coexist. A different wind from the Pacific blows every time. Each breath is a pleasant one. Follow a remote curvy road down and there is a seawater pool. It isn't artificial, it was naturally formed.”(yd.go.kr). I think you will feel happy walking this path because everybody comes back here again so not to forget this the path and scenery.

My Experience

           Have you ever been to the beaches at night when you felt confused? I have often been to Blue Load when I felt confused. There, I can’t see forward because there is only the light of a light house and some streetlamps. Also, there are no noises except for some of the ocean’s waves. This gives me calmness because I can think about lots of things alone. I have solved many problems there, so I recommend that you go to Blue Load at night as well as in the daytime.

My Summer Vacation

This summer vacation, I had a lot of experience swimming. I played in the water all day with my friends because we live near the sea and riversides. When we wanted to surf the waves, we went to the sea with our tubes. When we wanted to dive, we went to the riversides and we jumped into the water from the cliff. When we were hungry, we roasted beef and shellfish in a firepot. Also, we boiled chicken to eat Samgyetang. When we were bored with the same routine, we traveled to GaPyeong to the water park to ride the flyfish, blop jump etc. The facilities were so exiting and I have never felt that feeling. If you have a summer vacation, I firmly recommend you go there.

I would like to tell you about my hometown, YoungDuk. YoungDuk is famous for a beach located near the East Ocean. The beach is very long and the sea is so clean you can see the bottom. In summer, a lot of people visit and they swim. Also, there are many riversides, so people who don’t like seawater, couples, or just family visit there. YoungDuk is also famous for peaches. On the roadside, many merchants sell peaches and many visitors buy peaches. In winter, this is famous for crabs. Naturally, crabs are so expensive but YoungDuk crabs are famous for delicious food. I hope you get to visit.

Jean Valjean

I'm writing about my character Jean Valjean. Jean Valjean has poverty and starvation common during the 1800’s France. I’m unsure of his age, but he is not very old. He is healthy and a smart worker. In this book, Jean Valjean is same with Monsieur Madeleine. Jean Valjean changes his name because he wants to hide his small crime and keep away from inspector Javert.

         Why did Jean Valjean change his name to Monsieur Madeleine? Before entering the prison, although Jean Valjean had poverty and starvation, and he raised his sister’s seven children, he was warm-hearted. That's why Jean Valjean stole a loaf of bread, and he served nineteen years in prison for a loaf of bread. After, exiting the prison, he had only a displeasure and miserable life.

One day an incident that made him change occurred. He begged for dinner and a warm bed to the Bishop of Digne. There were silver plates and silver candlesticks, which attracted Jean Valjean's sight in the bishop of Digne's house. Finally, Jean Valjean stole these, but the police arrested him and took him back to the bishop's house. However, Digne said that he gave these as presents to Jean Valjean, so he was released. For example on page 5~6 hapter 1, Digne forgave Jean Valjean and then he lied to the police that Jean Valjean was not a thief. After that day, he earned a lot of money and he was determined to help like the bishop helped him. He was a warm-hearted man again. As a result, he changed his name to Monsieur Madeleine because he couldn't work anywhere as a criminal and Inspector Javert who trust the law is true knew Jean Valjean was in prison, so he needed to hide his rank.

         During reading this book 'Les Miserables", I thought the book told readers the gloomy background in 1800’s in France. The book’s background showed that people had poverty and starvation and couldn’t find work. It was very hard for people.  Finally, a rebellion occurred against the French government and many people died, so the book was gloomy. In conclusion, 1800’s France social atmosphere was very miserable, so this book’s name is Les Miserables.

The Elephant Man

      Merrick is an unusual man who looks like an Elephant. He is 27 years-old. His head is bigger than other people and the head doesn't have much hair. He also has brown, dirty skin in his face and it's hard to see one of his eyes very well. His right arm is enormous, and the right hand is like a man’s foot. However, his left arm and left hand are beautiful, so it is like a young woman’s hand. That’s why people are afraid of Merrick, so he is always sad. He didn’t meet women ever, but he likes to talk with women and read books and he is very pure like a child. Even though Merrick is different with other people and he has no family, he has good friends. Dr. Treves is a good person who assists him much and helps him meet other friends.
     I would say Merrick was a pitiful person because people considered Merrick as a creature. For example, on page 14 chapter 3 a lot of people of Belgium wanted to see Merrick, and so after a year Merrick had $50. it was his only means of earning money. Merrick is also pitiful because he died in vain. For example, on page 36 chapter 7 he tried to sleep on his back that night, but his heavy head came off the bed, and he broke his neck. As soon as he started to live a comfortable life with the help of many people, he dead ridiculously.

Yes Man About Carl

 

Introduction

I’ll start by introducing the main character in the movie, Carl. He is a bank clerk who doesn’t approve loans. He divorced his wife, Stepani, so he lives alone. He is a negative man. He always says ‘No’ to his friends and his coworkers. So Peter, Rooni, Nick, his friends, hate him and Normon, his coworker, threatens to fire him, but he gets promoted. His life is same ‘No’. After he comes back home from work, he just watches movies alone and he doesn’t answer his phone.

 

Life Experience

One day, his friend, Nick Rain, suggested Carl to attend ‘Yes Man’ and his best friend, Peter, said to him “You live alone lifetime”. So he went to ‘Yes Man’ and he tried to say “Yes”. If he didn’t say ‘Yes’, it appears unfortunate things. So he allowed a begger to use his cell phone, to pick up, and to give money, although he didn’t want to. Everything was yes. He met Elison and he fell in love with her. Also he started to learn to play a guitar, to learn Korean, and to fly airplanes. These things helped Carl so much, for example he succeeded in rescuing a man who tried to kill himself by using his guitar and Elison fell in love with him. However, she knew that Carl always said ‘Yes’ and then she was disappointed in him, so she didn’t meet Carl. After that day, he realized that not saying “Yes” is not unfortunate and he ran to her, and he proposed to marry her.

 

Conclusion

He is going to say “Maybe”, because in the end of the movie, Carl proposes to marry Elison and Elison says “maybe” and Carl agrees to say “maybe”. After that time, Carl is not going to say “Yes”. He will answer thoughtfully. However, Carl is simple, so he will answer very long because of much thought. He may say “maybe” when he works, so clients will be stuffy because Carl is not able to approve loans easily. His friends will hate Carl because he will not drink all night like before, and Elison may be stuffy because he will not select his opinion easily like before.

Experience : When I was 14 years old, I went to the Philipines

 

When I was 14 years old, I had an experience my life. My parents suggested to me go to the Philipines to learn English. At first, I really argued with my parents about that. Because I didn’t want to study during my vacation, I wanted to stay at my home and I wanted to play with my friends like other students. After I went to the Philipines, I realized that it was really wonderful and I could experience more things than my friends. Before I went to the Philipines, I thought I was really good at English because my score that were perfect. I soon realized that the test were really easy, so I could get perfect scores.

However when I went to the Philipines, I realized that I was not good at English beacause I couldn’t speak English fluently, so I was very embarrassed it was hard to listen when they talked. After I went to the Philipines, I was not afraid to talk to foreigners and it is easier to listen than before. Now I am more afraid of talking and listening because I was careless when studying English. Now I really thank my parents for suggesting that I go to the Philipines. I know it was not easy to go abroad to study because it was a great deal of money in those days. I think it was a good experience because it made me think differently. That means before I went to the Philipines, I was just a big frog in a small pond, but after that, I know I was not a big frog and it made me study English much more.

 

 

Experience : I failed to go to the college that I wanted to go to.

 

When I was 20 years old, I failed to go to the college that I wanted to go to. Before I was 20 years old, I had confidence that I could go to any college. I had good grades, which I thought would let me go to the college that I hoped. However I failed the advancement test, and I failed to enter the school that I wanted. After that day, I realized it was not easy to do something that I thought, and I was shy because I was ashamed to say that fact. I regretted that I did not do my best to the end. After that, I realized that it ain’t over till it’s over.

I’d like to tell you about my best friend, Dohyung. He works in the army as a soldier, but it is not his occupation. He will get out soon. He looks like Peter Parker, from Spiderman, so I often play with jokes, “Hey, Spiderman. Help me!!”. He likes to go to the club, and play with beautiful girls. However I know he is shy like me, but he always tells me that he is not. Sometimes we annoy each other because of our different opinions, but we understand each other. I really hope that he gets out of the army as soon as he can.

My name is Jihun Yun. I am 23 years old, and I am from YoungDuk, it is famous for crabs. I have lived in my hometown for 15 years, and when I was 17, I lived Pohang because of my high school. I come from a small family – I have one sister and father, and mother. My sister lives in Busan alone, and she works for LG Cosmetic as a teacher, she teaches salespeople. My parents live in YoungDuk, and they can’t work now. Last year my father had a bad accident, so he is recovering. My mother has had pain of waist, so this year she had an operation. And I have no a girlfriend, and I think it is pitiful. So I hope to meet my mate one day.

 

When I’m not studying l love to watch Dramas, listen to music, and drink beer. My favorite hobby is watching dramas, because I’m able to experience what I can’t experience in the real world. I love to listen to K-pop balled because the melody is easy to sing and lyrics make me feel calm. I think beer is the best drink, and I feel cool when I drink beer.
